Refurbishment
The Works
The Northwest Ambulance Service, Morecambe Ambulance Station Refurbishment was a comprehensive programme of works undertaken to modernise and enhance an existing operational ambulance station. The project involved a full internal refurbishment alongside significant external improvements, creating a modern, efficient and future-proof facility capable of supporting frontline ambulance operations while delivering improved working conditions for staff. The works incorporated the complete transformation through the expertise of our in-house design team including structural alterations, mechanical and electrical upgrades, energy-efficient technologies, accessibility improvements and extensive landscaping works.
The Works
A key element of the scheme was the complete internal transformation of the building, forming internal rooms from a garage space. Following the isolation of existing services and the removal of redundant building fabric, the station was reconfigured to provide an improved internal layout that better reflected the operational needs of the client. New foundations and blockwork infill walls were constructed where required, allowing the creation of revised room arrangements and circulation routes. Internal partition systems were installed throughout the building, forming new office, welfare and operational spaces that provided a more functional and efficient working environment for staff.
The quality of the internal environment was further enhanced through the installation of new windows and external doors, which improved both the building’s appearance and thermal performance. Internal finishes included new ceilings, decoration works, floor finishes and extensive joinery installations.
The Works
Externally, the works delivered substantial improvements to the site’s functionality, appearance and accessibility. Structural remediation works were completed to address existing defects, while old footpaths, steps and overgrown landscaping were removed and replaced with new paving and pedestrian routes. The redesigned external environment improved access around the station while providing a more welcoming and professional appearance for staff and visitors.
New guardrails, landscaping and site furniture were incorporated as part of a wider programme aimed at enhancing the usability and long-term maintenance of the facility. New macadam surfacing was installed, together with a new canopy and associated groundwork improvements. Additional facilities including a gas store, bin store and new line marking were introduced to improve the organisation, safety and functionality of the external areas.
